LTL stands for Less-than-Truckload. LTL refers to the fact that a smaller truck freight load is too large to ship as a parcel, and it’s too small to fit in a full-size trailer. LTL shipments are usually consolidated into full-container, or truckloads, and then shipped to the final destination after passing distribution hubs. LTL shipping offers significant savings compared to the same load being shipped by dedicated truck.

Dry Van, also known as a flatbed trailer, is a type of trailer used in the commercial trucking and cargo transportation industry. Each type of trailer has its own unique characteristics and advantages.
A dry van is a trailer that is fully enclosed. It is usually 53 feet long. It is used to transport pallets or box of cargo, usually non-perishable items. The enclosed design of a dry van protects the cargo from the elements and road conditions. A dry van is usually used to transport goods such as clothes, electronics, non-perishable foods and beverages. Due to their design, dry vans have restrictions in terms of cargo size and shape. A dry van loads and unloads from the back, which may necessitate a loading dock.
A flatbed trailer is a flat, open-topped trailer with no roof or sides. A flatbed trailer can hold a variety of cargo, such as large, heavy or oddly shaped items that would otherwise be confined to a Dry Van. Flatbed trailers are often used to transport construction equipment, heavy machinery, building materials or any oversized goods that require more room than a Dry Van can provide. Because a flatbed trailer is open-topped, cargo can be loaded and unloaded from the top, side or rear of the flatbed. However, due to the open-topped nature, cargo may need additional protection from the elements.
So what’s the difference between a dry van and a flatbed trailer? Well, it all comes down to their design and what kind of cargo they can carry. A Dry Van is an enclosed trailer that’s designed for small, non-perishable goods that need to be protected from the elements. A Flatbed trailer, on the other hand, is an open-topped trailer that can carry large, heavy or irregularly shaped goods. Which one to choose will depend on the type of cargo you’re hauling.
